Associated Shop Fitters

Morrison Fremantle

Project Info

Background

Morrison Group were refitting their existing toy and children's’  clothing store as Morrison Ladies Fremantle. The tenancy, located in a row of heritage listed shops in Market St Fremantle, required a complete fit out.

Matthews Architecture had designed a theatrical raw urban space that relied heavily on peeling back layers of the old building for its drama.

Major challenges with this refit were strict heritage guidelines and a very tight timeframe. The client was keen to close this very high exposure retail tenancy for as short a time as possible.

ASF were required to demolish the existing shopfront and rebuild it using solid jarrah, brass trims, and mosaic tiles while still  keeping within the the very strict heritage guidelines managed by Fremantle City Council.

Another hurdle was the requirement to provide structural support for the mounting of clothing hang rails from below the 100 year old flooring.

The most exciting challenge was the removal of the thick white plaster set over the original limestone and brick walls of the building.

Both client and architect were very happy with the fit out, especially the secret doorway that was revealed once the plaster was removed.  The project was completed on time despite the number of unknown factors at the start.
