Background

Chocolateria San Churro is a dessert only cafe franchise whose speciality is Spanish gourmet chocolates and churros - Spanish style donuts coated with cinnamon sugar and eaten with melted chocolate.

The franchise started in Melbourne and ASF was selected to fit-out its first franchise store in Fremantle, WA.

Objectives

Every San Churro store has a distinctive layout and presentation and ASF was required to create an ambience that would contribute to a special Fremantle dining experience.

In addition, ASF was also tasked to create elements unique to the Fremantle outlet including specialised tiling and a merchandise unit.

Challenges

ASF was given 6 weeks to fit out the 300m² store.

ASF had to work with a remote Project Manager from the franchise. The challenge was ensuring that ASF understood the needs of the client who could not be on site and therefore not easily available for clarifications.

Outcomes

ASF undertook the complete fit-out of the shop. The store was given a tiled archway and a new ceiling and bulkheads, banquet seating, specialised veneer columns with capital, serving counters made of timber veneer and stone,

and featuring specialised paint that comprised of nine different colours and consistency to give it a textured look and feel.

Of note were the custom designed and crafted merchandise units, which are unique and exclusive to the Fremantle store.

The project was completed on schedule and the store opened in time for the Christmas period. The client was extremely happy because the assignment went very smoothly, the finished product was exactly as they had wanted and there were minimal defects.
